How will they hold up? I carved out a fluke type mold and melted down some old ripped up plastics, and got about 3 good ones worthy of fishing. Is wood okay to use for a while?

i think it's too porous to work properly.

I'd coat it with a good strong epoxy or some fiberglass resin like Bondo.

wood might be ok for a while  if you used epoxy to seal it inside the cavity
