So, this is probably a pretty obscure topic but I thought I would ask about it here as I know literally nothing about RC stuff. But, a local park is building an Off Road RC Track and I am thinking about getting a truck to race on it. Some of these trucks are pretty expensive. I want to get a truck that I could be competitive with in organized Off Road races but I also want to be reasonable on what I spend... around $150 or so... Anybody on these boards knowledgeable about RC who could give me a starting point to look at and what I should look for in one of these toys?

i know nothing on rc cars but i would say $150 wont get you much probally closer to $1000

 

Like full size racing. rc dose have classes. You can take a 300 dollar ready to race, and win races. You could also spend over 1000 dollars on a kit, and win races. The best thing you can do is go once it opens. Ask around what classes they race, and what type of buggy's, or trucks every one is running.

Then comes the choices of nitro, or electric. I wont go in to that. Its like opening a can of worms.

This particular track is electric only, no nitro. So at least I've already got 1 decision made.

I used to do it now all my trucks just sit and collect dust. I been thinking bout selling them since I haven't fired them up in about 4 years and nitro is EXPENSIVE!!! I always stuck with traxxis trucks I'v got the Revo 3.3(two of them) ones decked out nothing stock on it the other is mostly stock besides power upgrades. 3.3 tmaxx and a 2.5 rustler. 

 

They are fun and sound like weed whacker on roids but a pita to tune and expensive to feed and fix. 

Probably going to be a 1/8 scale truggy track...dont have alit of experience with them..i run 1/8 nitro truck well i havent in about 4 years now they just stare at me in the garage...lol.look into mamba monster great motor and esc combo

Go to the races and see what it is all about , and see what they run. As you can tell from the responces so far, you could probabally buy used and get more for the money. Most people in r/c end up upgrading and have old stuff they don't use anymore.
