question for Rapala Digital Scale owners

Featured Replies

Ok, this may be a dumb question, but how do you guys put the fish on the scale to weigh it?  If the fish is big enogh, I put the hook thing on it's lower lip.  I havent had one fall off yet, but it seems that just barely holds them.  I use to use a trailer hook that i slipped over the hook on the scale to weigh the fish with.  But with that method, id always have to put another hole in the fish.  ;)   Is there a more efishent way?  Thanks for any response.

Slip the hook between the gill plate and the first gill raker. DO NOT put it between gill rakers as you can damage the fish but between the first raker and the plate will do no harm as long as the fish isn't flopping uncontrollably.

Place the fish in a plastic grocery bag

then hook the bag handles to weigh your fish.

Does the plastic bag remove any of the protective slime? Or do you wet the bag?

Good question Marty.

I like your idea of wetting the bag, that way if I get a little sloppy with the water, I can get some nice high readings bushy-browed.gif

On a serious note and in the fish's interest, it's very easy to get the "Tare Weight" of your rubber net.

Just tie a tiny string-hoop through the end of the net handle, and place it on the hook of the digital scale while still in the "OFF" position.

Now switch the digital scale "ON", then add the fish to the net. The readout on a good digital scale will exclude the weight of the net.

Ive always been scared to try and weigh them by their gill plate, but i might try it.  I think I like the plastic bag idea though.    Ill make sure ill have plenty of water in the bag as not to harm the bass.  ;)

I dont use a net so the other idea wont work for me.
