Regular blanks from Japanese rods

Featured Replies

How do the regular action blanks from Japanese rod makers compare to American rod makers? Is it a true moderate or moderate fast or do they run a little faster or slower? Thanks.

Okay specifically speaking the Daiwa Zillion.

Haven't fished a zillion rod but the regular taper on the Tatula rod I had was more mod/fast slightly more on the fast side. My friend just switched all his Tatula rods for Zillions. I can ask him if they fish the same.

Daiwa America develops their own rods and reels. It's not really a Japanese Brand. Same with Shimano. So hard to tell. But JDM (real Japanese rods) tend to be slower than US Rods.

When you see the term "regular" for action or taper look to the power of the rod to get a better idea of the action. The regular taper on Daiwa rods differs depending on the power, the MH rods tend to have a mod-fast taper while medium and medium light tend to be more moderate.

i have a gen 1 zillion "fast action" and it fishes like a true fast in my opinion.
