TProG Brakes

Featured Replies

I feel so dumb asking this question, considering the extent of my knowledge, but how do you tune the brakes on the ProG?
not my picture, but here they are:

Pull out on the brake tab for on and push in for off. You'll hear a slight click when you do it. That reel has 4 on and 2 off from what I see. Really hard to tell with the angle. Isn't the G model externally adjusted though? I guess you might still be able to turn some brake tabs off. Call Lews and ask.

I don't have it with me, but if I recall, it feels like they move freely.

I had the same question. I looked at my reel for a bit and I couldn't figure out how they would snap in/out. I think they just stay free. I may be wrong though.

The older Tournament Pro had dual centrifugal and magnetic brakes. The newer G uses the 27 position external centrifugal braking system. The dial outside the plate that is normally your magnetic brake adjustment is your adjustment.  This is the same system the BB1 uses.

That's right, you don't adjust the brakes themselves, just the dial on the outside.  Its an external centrifigual brake adjustment.  I own the same reel, and read the manual that comes with it in the box, tells you everything you need to know, as well as maintenance.  One maintenance item that stuck out was that you are supposed to lightly oil the drum that the brakes ride in (the cover side) brass part after about every outing with supplied oil, which I believe I also read in the manual for the Shimano Curado I, both reels recommend this.

I love the new braking system on the higher end lews, Ive got 2 pro g's and a team lite and I wish my tourney mg's had this system.

From what a lews rep told me they were self engaging. Didn't know the new tp had these now.
