Drop shot in current

Featured Replies

Has anyone had any experience with drop shot in tail race waters?

I was going to try and drift with the bait. Kind of like you do with live bait drifting in the current. Really wasn't sure what size weight and what the best bait would be to use for that. Would be trying to imitate bait fish so maybe a fluke Jr would be good.

I don't have a lot of experience with it, but I have a friend that fishes for steelhead. He told me to try slinky weights, so I made my own using cord and split shot. I made a bunch that were different weights. I just guess and try different weights until I find one that will barely tick the bottom. I'm sure some other guys here will chime in that have more experience but I just use baits like roboworms, dream shots and senkos.

Look up Dan Gapan and his book on "Big River Fishing". In it he explains the technique of "slipping" a river. Many folks don't know this method of boat control, but should! Very effective with the drop shot or jig fishing.
