Z Man Finesse Shroomz Weedless Heads?

Featured Replies

Last Sunday I was out targeting Smallies and didin't get a sniff with jerkbaits, tubes and various dropshot baits and switched to the Ned Rig and hooked into over dozen fish. However I lost 9 Zman Finesse Shroomz heads in different weights on rock on wood. How does the weedless version come over wood and rock? Any other rigging suggestions? This weekend I'm going to try a #1 Owner Rig-N-Hook with 1/16oz. tungsten bullet weight and a Charlie Brewer Weedless Spider head though the hook size might be a bit long. A Charlie Brewer weedless Crappie Slider head might be a better match(?).

Even the weedless head will get snagged in rocks, the only way to minimize snagging rocks is to use lighter heads so the bait doesn't sink into the crevices as fast.  The weedless version does do a good job at not snagging wood, but z-man only makes the weedless shroomz down to 1/10 oz. so you will snag in rocks more often.  So it's really a trade off, either way you will lose some jigs. I usually just use the regular heads as they are cheaper and are made lighter weights.  If you continue losing a lot of jigheads I would recommend starting to pour your own, then they only cost about five cents each after the initial investment of about sixty dollars.
