  3. I want to use this rod for throwing jerkbaits and topwater in the 3/8 - 3/4 oz. range. I'm using a St. Croix 68MXF right now and I'm very happy with it. I'm wanting a 7 foot rod for extra distance. I have two concerns: Does the rod have enough tip action for jerking and walking? Is there enough backbone to set the hook at a long distant? Any other comments on the rod?
  4. I use mine with #8 yo-Zuri Hybrid and it's been excellent for both jerkbaits and topwater. My hook-up ratio has gone way up as compared to a med-fast crankbait rod. The rod also keeps them pinned.
  5. Thanks bigturtle and rippin-lips. My concern was how a braid/leader knot would pass through the guides.
  6. I'm looking for a 7' 6" L/ML rod and was thinking of this rod. Wanted to try a Phenix rod for years. Thanks for the post.
  7. I'm seriously thinking of getting an Orochii XX Flatside special for jerkbaits and topwater. Does the rod come with micro guides? Does the entire line-up of Orochii XX rods come with micro guides?

  9. From where I live when it comes to bass fishing there isn't many anglers targeting bass and many have the mentality that bass are garbage fish. Most of these people are the elitist stillwater trout flyfisher. I usually see one or two anglers on average targeting bass on the lakes I fish so it's hard to get read how others are doing in regards to size and numbers caught. I have done alot of flyfishing for four different species of Pacific Salmon for over 30 years. Alot of times there is a concentration of anglers in a small area and from what I seen most of the time 10% of the flyfishers do catch 90% of the fish.
  10. Thanks for the feedback.
  11. Just recently picked up a 7' 6" medium heavy crankbait rod and I'm really happy with it. I have a DT16 in Yellow Perch on my list. Thanks guys.
  12. Thanks for the replies guys. I was using a 1/4oz. Hot Lips Express this morning and caught a couple of Smallies. It was running 14'-15'. Mind you, it's 2 1/4" long. The cranks I'm ordering are 2.5" to 3". So a Smallie is reluctant to hit a 3" crank running 15'-20'? I've done very little deep cranking and do have some deep divers in the range of 15'-20'. The reason being I didn't have the proper rod and reel. I use to use a medium crankbait rod and it was a hell of alot work so I didn't stick with it very long.
