Help getting midday bites in northern Colorado (Fort Collins)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm about a year into bass fishing and I am hooked on it, but I'm having trouble getting bites. I live in Fort Collins in northern Colorado and mainly fish ponds from shore that have weedy soft bottoms. Last summer I caught a handful of bass mainly on senkos but only at dusk. Last year I only caught three fish all summer during the day and two were overcast late afternoon and one when it was raining. I assume the water is colder here than most of the bass fishing world

This year I am 0-6 on my fishing trips. Any advice on how or where to get a bite during the day in northern Colorado?

If I were you I would target and sort of shade around the pond in the mid day. If there are bushes, trees, overhangs, etc. Start there in mid day and try to get into the back of them. If there is any grass, try in there as well. Hope this helps, tight lines

I live in Broomfield (just south of you) I like to use moving baits in the middle of the day such as a lipless crainkbait or a Wisey Worm. I will through these around docks, dropoffs, and points. If the water is colder I would use a silent lipless.

Weedless rigged swing impact or easy shiner from keitech.  Throw it like a worm then swim it back.  4" work the best for me.

Broken back ( jointed) J11 silver Rapala is one of the most effective pond lure for bass everywhere. Another excellent presentation for soft plastics is the slip shot rig using  6 lb mono, 1/8 oz mojo weight, Carolina keeper and Owner #5133 size 1 hook with 4 1/2" curl tail Roboworm in oxblood red flake or Aaron's Magic. The weight should be about 24" above the hook. Fan cast these 2 different presentations and cover as much of the pond as you can.
