Super User flyfisher Posted April 30, 2016 Super User Share Posted April 30, 2016 yeah, buy one. Do a search on here as there are a ton of spots about this very topic. I will say go to a demo days and try out a ton of boats and make a decision after paddling, don't get caught up in all the hype and have fun.
avidone1
Yes, by all means demo demo demo. But remember it's not just how the yak is IN the water. You also have to get it TO the water. I think a good starter boat is a perception, they are not cheapies but why would you want crap? they are also not 'high end' just a good solid angling worthy kayak that will do a no frills job. There are many good kayaks for bass fishing but I would include perception in my search. Jackson cuda, and hobie are great yaks. Also look at Wilderness and Ocean kayaks. I bought an eddyline Caribbean angler 12 because of the lighter weight. Good luck and have fun

GetBent
What's your budget? Lots of great kayaks on the market. I have had a few different ones. I settled for pedal style yaks. I have a busted shoulder and I can fish lol day and not get tired. If that wasn't big enough reason to get one, the hands free fishing is awesome. I currently use a 5in graph looking to get a 7in side scan graph. Only downside to yaks is I can't take other people fishing, but that can be a bonus as well. My kids are both under 2 so I am in no hurry to get a boat. I really enjoy my yak. There are a lot out there. Budget and transport options are deciding factors. I'm a fishing nut and converted a 5x8 utility trailer to haul my yak and two more with gear, my current yak is a Hobie outback and I'm pretty happy with it. hoosierbass07
Most important rule about kayaks (besides safety) - the SEAT! Buy the kayak with the best seat you can afford. SEAT SEAT SEAT!

Somewhere, in this vast world, someone is doing the exact same and exact opposite!! 6 hours ago, Last_Cast said: Not saying kayaking is bad or anything, but why?! Middle of a custody battle (not cheap). Time. Effort. My love for bass fishing is increasing yearly and right now, with the above to consider, I just want to fish. I don't want to worry about anything else. A kayak lets me just go and go quickly! 17 hours ago, hoosierbass07 said: Most important rule about kayaks (besides safety) - the SEAT! There were some I was in and after 5mins I was like "nope, not a chance in hell!"
