From what I understand its a standard procedure nowadays. I work with a guy who had 2 knees replaced and he walks like you wouldn't know it. Main thing is you gotta rehab the knee. Take your time getting better and exercise. If its makes you feel better, my friend told me he liked spending time in the pool doing his exercises.

My knee replacement operation took 45-minutes.

Now waiting for the operating room was over an hour with one little sheet covering my me in a cold room waiting to be called was the first of my mistake adventures. But once they knocked me out and got me prepped I had no idea what was going on and woke up in recovery.

Recovery is not bad. Still cold with a light weight sheet on me and then they put a blanket over the sheet when I threatened to get up and go get one myself, and then had to wait over six hours in recovery for an open room.

The hospital stay was not bad, as long as they are feeding you the pain meds. In fact, I was ready to get up and go the next day, but of course, I had to stay and continue my recovery.

At home I had no problems. Used my wife's walker to get around and stayed in bed watching lots of TV.

OK, so far, so good. Here is the reason I won't get the other knee replaced: physical therapy.

Talk about pain. You will have to bend your knee all the time, and work through the pain. Physical therapy was no cake walk until the knee started to get better. But you have to do your exercises all the time and get that range of motion back.

So I suggest you go consider going through the operation. I am glad I did for one knee as the pain is gone and other than feeling the knee cap when I kneel down I have no idea I have a replacement knee.

Let us know what you decide.

Had bilateral total knee replacement two years ago.  Best thing I ever did.  Totally pain free now.  I was in surgery nine hours.  It seems they dropped one of the components and had to order/wait for a new one.  I guess there's no 5 second rule in the operating room.  Let me know if you need further info.

My dad had one four years ago.  He had hurt so bad for so long that it got bowlegged and he wobbled when he walked.  Now,  never could tell there was a problem.  Most people say their biggest regret was not getting it done sooner.

I'm tired of the pain. I may get it done. Get back to fishing. And caught up on my do list.

My grandfather has had 2 knee replacements. It made a new man of him- for him recovery was very quick and not difficult.

Do it! The short recovery and PT time is nothing in comparison to the better life you live after. I just had my 3rd surgery in 2 years (shoulder, tricep and hernias) and would do them all over again if I had to.

My wife, now 74, had both knees replaced and a friend of ours, a little ole' lady, 83 years old, just had a knee replaced.  Both got up and running relatively quickly.  No pain after all is healed up.  Main thing is doing the post op therapy.  If these 'older' ladies can handle it, I would think you could handle it well.
