Keitech Squid scent?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I picked up a package of Keitech easy shiner baits yesterday. When I went to put them in my tackle bag I noticed it said they had a strong squid scent. I opened the package up and they weren't kidding, man they smell bad!. Are bass really attracted to that kind of scent, or are these made for salt water?

                                                                 Thanks

You should split the pack and send half to me and half to Bluebasser, we will make sure you didn't get a bad pack and let you know what we find out fishing with them.  But yes, ALL Keitech baits smell that way.

I don't believe it does.   Ive never had scented bait be a big advantage over non-scented baits.   Especially on swimming baits.  But regardless, I use the easy shiner in both 4" & 2" versions often, and the bass and panfish love em.   They are an outstanding minnow profile, and their best feature is their slow speed action.

Sooo...I get over the smell.

Thanks everyone,

I'll give them a try.

One day some years ago I took my dog for a walk on the beach after an Atlantic storm. Hundreds of dead squid had washed up on the beach. These baits smell worse.

Do not, I repeat, do not get the " strong squid scent " in your mouth!

The flavor lingers far longer than you want it too even after drinking water.  I almost want to carry one of those little MRE bottles of tabasco sauce in my tackle kit as an antidote if it happens again.

It reeks. Like oily fermented nasty squid. I like seafood but that stinks. Works great though so I don't care and I guess it's a nice change up to the normal robust garlic. Add some jj and u got a stew goin.
