Hard bait lip - super glue vs epoxy?

Featured Replies

What do most of you guys use to attach lips to hard baits? Any reason to use epoxy over super glue? If so - what brand? Thanks for any input.

I prefer epoxy because it is more impact resistant.  Try some Rod Bond epoxy paste.  It's a gel so won't run out of the lip slot.  Fill the slot with the epoxy using a piece of wire and then simply push in the lip and wipe off the epoxy that squeezes out the back of the slot.  If you put the epoxy on the lip versus the slot, it gets scraped off onto the front of the lip, causing a mess.  Rod Bond is sold by Mudhole tackle and other rod building sites.  It cures slowly enough that you have time to adjust the lip after insertion.  Leave It to cure overnight and voila.

Epoxy is a must, super glue offers only a light surface bond and won't hold up to the type of pressure put on a diving bill. A good 2 part epoxy that is water proof, Flex Coat makes a lure epoxy that will work for that purpose.

I would think this would be a great use for the UV epoxy. Put it in the gap, place in your lip, adjust it just the way you want it and stick it under a UV light for 10 seconds. Then proceed to painting. I use it in fly tying to attach foam bodies to hooks so I know its water proof, at least the stuff I got at hobby lobby is. Keychain UV light was $0.98. I don't know how durable it would be on big deep divers or square bills bouncing rock though, have to test it and see.

Devcon 2 ton epoxy 30 minute is what I use. Super glue gel is great for weedguards but Devcon mixed properly will attach oil to water permanently.
