New to fishing/Memphis

Featured Replies

Okay so I'm new to fishing and wanted to start, and the closest pond to my house is Johnson Rd park in Germantown tn. Was just wandering what kind of fish they have in there and what kind of luck have y'all had in that pond, thanks and God bless!

Good luck!

im not trying to sound rude or anything. but ive fished johnson road park a few times and its over fished. they isnt even a single catfish in there from what ive seen. i went there about 5 times recently and i used all sorts of baits and didnt even catch a catfish and i tried bass fishing alot. if anything your catching a dink (a really small bass) its over fished i reccomend you fish at grove park or at nashoba those both have crappie and bass. grove has some big ones. good luck. just release the bass tho please :D i caught a 8.1 pounder about a few days ago at grove so theres some big ones

I helped with a demonstration for Germantown Parks last year. I was showing a VERY young boy how to reel, he nor his parents had ever been fishing. To my amazement he hooked up and with a little help, landed his first fish! A little later I was demonstrating how to fish topwater and just after telling the group that it was the wrong time of day, BAM!

However, the bottom line is that the pond only produces small fish, probably 2-3 lbs max.

I'm new to the board and I love to fish I literally ride around and look for water to throw a line in. Normally I fish for whatever bites but I've recently started focusing on Bass fishing.

Just last month I fished Nashoba and the park off of Humphreys I didnt get many bites but I was also fishing once I got off of work so it was hot and I was using mainly a spinnerbait.

Since then I've started using Texas rigged worms as my go to for Bass and it has worked like a charm. I think I will try Nashoba out again. My questions is are the bites coming from the big main lake or one of the ones off the trail through the woods?

I too ride around looking for places to fish....never leave home without my gear.  Johnson Park is where I have landed today.  I got a few bites around the pier but did not hook anything.  I only fished for about an hour before it got to dark to see anything. Bottom line, not impressed with Johnson Park.

I haven't fished Johnson but I've fished both parks on Wolf River blvd in Germantown along with the park in Collierville  off civic center. I've also hung a few small bass in Shelby Farms Beaver lake.

I got a late start this season after not fishing for a couple years so I'm not too disappointed when I don't catch much but I plan on fishing year round from here on so maybe my luck will change come fall.
