Would be putting it on a Pro 170. I am intrigued due to the easy install & low price. Can anyone talk me out of it? 

I think you'll be pushing the weight limit of the micro.  Dont just count the dry weight of your hull.  count your motor, batteries, gas, gear and passengers.  I was tempted to get one for my 16.5ft lund but opted for a Dig-In shallow water anchor instead

The micro would probably work for a pro 170.  Its rated for 1500 pounds.  Sure does take up a lot less space and costs substantially less than a talon or power pole, that's for sure.

hull weight is 878 lbs

motor weight is 247

2 passengers at least 300lbs

at least 2 batteries and gas and you are over 1500lbs

My big concern about the power pole is having a 8ft pole sticking up when your trolling. Seems like it would be hitting tree limbs. 

Also, the lakes I fish have steep banks. I would never get to use it. It's not uncommon to have a twenty foot drop off right at the bank.

Otherwise, I would love to have one.

You could try the micro pole and then upgrade if you need more holding strength from a full size power anchor?  Or, you could use 2 micro power poles?  Even two of those things costs less than one power or talon.  If it were my boat, I'd give it a try.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I will give it a shot. If one doesn't quite hold, I will get a second(assuming they can be linked together for the switches). You can lay the pole down when you have no interest in using it (little bit of a hassle for sure though). 

If you're going to use the micro anchor in a river you will want to consider how it will hold you against the current.
