el_jewapo
last week my trolling motor was submerged. i went fishing in my boat yesterday for the first time since and something burned up in my trolling motor. it started with reverse not working and then it started smoking and forward wouldn't work either. i opened it up when i got home and a wire was burned through making contact with another wire. i wraped it with electrical tape and it still doesn't work. i'm no expert, but i think the switch is bad. any ideas? FL_fisher
Does the switch look like it got melted ? Also try touching one of the main wires (big red or big black )to the little wires one at a time and see if you get power. If it works it is the switch.watch out for the sparks.lol

Low_Budget_Hooker
the switches are cheap, lets hope the armature is still good.

scbassin
You motor probley got water in it & shorted out. Take it to a boat dealer & have them put a meter on it.
Low_Budget_Hooker
The armature is the "lower unit" of a trolling motor(the heavy part) Good point scbassin', a simple test with an ohm meter will show if you have continuity armature is part #
