Wire Size

Featured Replies

i thnk i know the answer to this question but wish to get some opnions.

i just got this little Jon boat, it has a Older Foot feed trolling motor. it seems the Wire from the Battery is from a Dryer cord (the Big), my question is this, whats the best size wire for that?

also, being older, the prop on the Trolling motor could stand to be replaced. this i know nothing about.. with no markings on the motor what do i look for to get the right one.

thanks in advance.

On the trolling motor, generally speaking bigger wire is better.  As I recall most of the boat manufactures use 6 gauge wire for the trolling motor.

For the trolling motor prop, can you identify the brand of the motor?

I'd have to see it but it's probably 4,6 or 8 gauge  w/ my money on 6

is that 6 from the Battery? i think its an Old Motor Guide Foot controlled. real nice littel dude. Be nicer if i had it running.

talked to a guy in Texas, seems i can get a Prop (3rd party) for it.

If you have a good boat dealer or bass pro/ Cabelas in your area I would take the old prop in to the store and match it up with a new one. As foe the wire, it would be best if it was the same gauge right from the battery to the motor. If you can, put the ring terminals directly on the wire running to the TM and attach directly to the battery.

regarding the trolling motor prop, measure the diameter of the motor, this should put you in the ball park.  Or take the simple approach and remove the prop and take it with you to the store.

6 gauge would be my bet also for wire size.
