Crankbait trick that catches fish and saves money

Recommended Posts

So lately I have been getting into Wal-Marts clearance section and picked up 10 different Cotton Cordell crankbaits all white and off white for a buck a piece and a pack of SpikeIt! markers for 2$. I took a few and colored them with my red/blue/yellow/orange markers to match popular KVD cranks. The SpikeIt! practically glows under water and I have been hammering fish the past two weeks. I have been picking up my cranks as a go to when I didn't touch them at all prior. Scent and color has lasted two weeks strong as well, anyways give it a shot and good luck!

I have done this with regular markers before but I'll have to try spike it ones. Thanks

Nice! wish I could hit a deal like that. Few years ago I picked up a handful of Rebel Wee R squarebills for $1.50 a piece. If I come across a lot of wood cover, they are my designated crasher cranks.

I'm sure it doesn't hurt that those Big O's are great crankbaits as is.

Regular sharpies work for the same reason, as do rattle cans if you want to get a little trickier.

The Spikeit markers would be a better option regardless due to the scent and glow though for sure. It's a pretty decent crank for 1.96 Regular price though I will agree.

I'm not sure what "glow" you're getting from SpikeIt? I don't think they're probably smelling the garlic on that moving crankbait, but if it gives you confidence in it you'll fish it harder and with more concentration, and that does catch more fish for sure.

Gold color works well where I fish. I've taken my daughter's art kit to some white or shad colored cranks and jerkbaits before with good results.

I've also painted some small Bomber cranks with her hot pink nail polish because my buddy was catching bass on pink crappie size cranks. This had less stellar results.

Spike It does glow under water, at least it makes Powerbait glow something fierce when you dip them in it...will the markers glow as well as the juice, that I couldn't say but if they're cheap enough it's worth a shot. This makes me wonder if my JJ's Magic dye could be painted on hard bait lures?

I would bet JJ's works even better and yes it glows. The garlic scent and taste on the lure will produce stronger, longer hits. KVD has a whole video about spray scent on all his hardbaits on youtube. It's worth a watch if you have 3 minutes.

This may well be true but I've never paid any attention to hard bait scent or taste. There are strictly a reaction bite lure and as soon as its in there mouth there hooked without time to taste
