I use medium action rods for crankbaits. The more flexible rod means you are less likely to pull treble hooks out of a basses mouth. 

I would throw 12lb mono or 25-30lb braided line on it and fish literally anything from light t-rigs to medium divers. I wouldn't throw anything over 1/2oz though. 

It depends on the rods action. I use medium power moderate action rods for cranks. I use medium power fast action rods for Texas rigs and jigs. I also use medium power extra fast action rods for topwaters/jerkbaits/drop shot. 

That combo sounds like an all around setup with the exception of cranks.
