Megabass S crank problem

Recommended Posts

So I was just organizing my crank box, and noticed that my S cranks all of a sudden had "racing stripes" lol upon closer inspection, it looks like the paint job is like a shrink wrap type film. My tackle bag has been riding around in the car with me, and I am starting to think the heat made these cranks swell. All my other cranks look normal, has anyone else had this happen?

Sent an email to megabass through the "contact us" link on their website with pictures and an explanation, hopefully they will respond. I sure hope they do something to solve the issue, it could be very bad for someone with a box full of those cranks. Luckily I only had 2

Looks like they got hot...

They did, they were in my tackle bag which was in my car while I was working. I can't imagine it was much hotter than if someone had left the box in a compartment of their boat though, like I said all of my other cranks look perfect. There are even other megabass hardbaits in the same box and they show no signs of swelling or cracking.

That's weird, that's not even paint it's more like a "wrap".

Which I had no idea was their method. I'll be wary going forward.

Very interesting, this is a top 3 crankbait for me.  I have one that has probably 30-40 fish on it and other than the normal wear and tear looks great.

Megabass replied back to me yesterday and told me that they have no kind of warranty on their baits, that they just handle each case on a case by case basis. They asked me to send the cranks in with the hooks removed, so I packaged them up and shipped them today. They should arrive next Tuesday, we will see what happens from there. So far they are being very helpful

I marked to follow this thread. This is one of the companies I find absurd for asking $20 for a crankbait. I get it some of you will pay $500 for a bait but for the rest of us on a budget your issue just makes my case even more. They are no more special than a Rapala at 1/2 that price. :P

I am curious if that is a common way to finish lures? I have never had a lure do that and I leave some in my truck all summer and I never vent the Windows.

I could see using the wrap to get super consistent finishes, but would think toothy critters or the hooks would tear them up.

This is the first time I've seen a lure with a wrap-style finish too.  Is the Megabass lure underneath a clear plastic or metallic flake plastic?  It's kind of hard to see in the pictures...I'm guessing it's some kind of metallic flake plastic so the wrap has better light reflection.

The plastic underneath is like a milky white color, it is not clear at all and it had no metallic flake from what I saw

This my friends is why I fish norman cranks. 20 dollars for the heat to warp it? What happens if you cut it and leave it on the boat deck for 2 or 3 hours?
