Why CA stopped stocking trout in many lakes.

Recommended Posts

That arcticial is 8 years old and some things have changed since then, some haven't.

The DFG is now called the DFW, Game changed to Wildlife and that somes up where Califirnia is headed. Song birds get the same funding as game birds, game fish and trash fish are all the same with one exception; none native fish can be eradicated.

The DFW had to submit study reports on the native fish species in every body of water they manage and come up with a plan to prevent stocking non native fish species that compete with native fish in the same waterways. The villain is native steelhead trout, the DFW can't stock sterile hatchery rainbow trout anywhere that historically had steelhead. That issue has been resolved last year 2015 and limited stocking of hatchery raised rainbow trout. The problem now is the drought, low water conditions and funding to raise hatchery trout.

Just opened this year too after being closed for 3 or so years because of the drought!  How's the bass fishing up there?

Losers- Anglers

Winners- Anybody who works for the California government. Very expensive and time-consuming studies only cost taxpayers more money.
