Replacing Rod Tip-Top

Featured Replies

I will be replacing my rod tip top soon because the ceramic ring thingy got knocked out. So I was wondering if you actually need tip top adhesive or will regular liquid glue hold just fine?

I've only used the hot glue stick because I want to be able to get it off in case I need to replace it again.

They usually come with hot glue... it'll melt in the heat though, and you're tip guide will fall off-center.  If you want it strong and permanent, i'd go with a clear two-part epoxy.

I think I'll just go with the hot glue sticks because I don't want it to be permanent just in case I want to replace it again. But I was originally wondering if just regular bottled glue would work, but now I'm thinking that it may be too weak?

No, it won't work. Epoxy works and can easily be removed by heating the tip just like you do when you remove the original one. It's a little more difficult to use though because it doesn't set quickly like the glue stick does.

And you can get this 5 minute epoxy from a hardware store correct? Its not some special fishing thingy that you can only get at bass pro right?

Yep, that's what I've used. Same stuff I use to set weed guards in my jigs.
