So today was out and while pitchen some downed timber, I hit a limb, while trolling, nothing major. I've did it before with nothing bad happening. After that both directions on my trolling went the same way. Then I started to go backwards.  I pulled motor up and twisted with pedal back and forth. After about 20 minutes of cussing and almost crying.... ) long day and needed the lake) it finally started working normal. Idk what I did to fix or what happened period. Any ideas.

Ha! I've done that before too.  I had a motor guide 82 digital on my last boat and hit some logs in current on the trolling motor and it immediately started pushing me backwards .  I did it two or three times but I hit them a little harder than you probably should .I pulled the trolling motor and then redeployed it and it worked fine. My solution… Stop hitting stuff:)  i'm sure someone on here can give you an in-depth answer as to why but I never worried about mine. Never had a single issue with that TM. It might have something to do with the magnets in the head I'm not sure

Thank you. I feel good knowing it's happened to someone else. Fished in boats all my life.. Never been up front till I bought my own and still am learning. It is an older model and then boat doesn't have a complement for to set it. If that tells you age. The learning curve is real 

Hitting something with your TM is not rare. Even when I had a TM on the back of my jon boat I still hit rocks or stumps or whatever. It happens to everybody eventually. That's why they started beefing up the shafts on them. Back 20 yrs ago bending a TM shaft was pretty common. I even knew a guy who made money unbending them. TMs are much better now.
