Illinois River Fishing

Featured Replies

Going up to Northern Illinois this weekend and doing some river fishing. Targeting smallies or largemouth, which ever bites first. I've never really river fished before, can someone give me some solid advice as to what I should bring up there? Fishing the Kishwaukee River.

Sorry, I thought you were fishing the Illinois River. Can't help you there.

I don't think any of the Kish is navigable by boat and from what I understand the fishing is better north of DeKalb. You Wading? Kayaking? I haven't fished the Kish but hellgrammites, small crawfish, dropshots, flukes, and shallow white with black back rapalas should do you well

My buddy says he got two kayaks, so I guess it is navigable. Im thinking of throwing weightless flukes and senkos on 8lb FC. Gonna take some small spoons and inline spinners too.
