Mass Bass Fall Fishing

Featured Replies

Hey whats up guys, hope you guys are having tight lines out there for a fall fishing. I have a question about jigs, I have a St.Croix Avid X 6'8 medium xtra fast spinning rod. I want to try some jig fishing, should I be using a 1/4oz football jig or a 3/8 oz foot ball jig? Thanks for all the advice!

whatever weight you need to use so you still "feel" it. The deeper you fish the heavier jig you will need to still feel the lure.

Lot's of factors to consider, depth, wind, current, the structure on the bottom, weeds.  No simple answer.  With most jigs it's keeping in contact with the bottom (swim jigs not so much) I like fishing a jig and my preference is a 7ft M/H power with a ex fast or fast tip.  I use a baitcasting rod, but if I were to fish a spinning rod it would be the same set up. I like a long rod to pick up slack line in a hurry. The rod you have should be ok for jigs up to 3/8 -1/2 oz. with a 2500 series reel.  Set your drag accordingly and lay the wood to them when you set the hook.  Gd luck

Lots of great info already in this thread.  Make sure your rod is stout enough so that you can accurately feel when your jig is on the bottom and when it's falling.  Also you need to make a pretty stout hookset, so make sure your rod is up to the task.  A baitcasting setup would help here.  Good luck!  Lots of pigs being caught on jigs this time of year.
