Good spinning rod for casting light lures and gaining distance?
A lot of casting distance (with light lures) depends on your line as well. If you're throwing a 1/8 oz bait on 12lb flouro, you won't get it that far out. If you're throwing it on 10lb braid, it'll go a mile.

Does gear ratio affect casting distance?
Thanks guys - I only ask because I was watching the most recent BigBassDreams vid on YT and they were saying something about wanting a faster gear ratio reel "because I'm only casting to that one tule right there" and I wondered if that implied a reduced casting distance for higher gear reels.

Does gear ratio affect casting distance?
To be dramatic: Will a 4.8:1 cast farther than an 8.1:1?

Is it Possible.
Kurita has claimed to have hooked a bass he estimates to be 25+ on a mother a couple years ago. He says that he still knows where she lives, just cant get her to bite again.

Nosy ramp guys
My dad always told me: "Son, it's never OK to lie. That being said, if anyone ever asks you how many fish you caught, you tell them you got skunked!" Sounds like you should have adhered to this ole piece of advice

Mass Bass Fall Fishing
Lots of great info already in this thread. Make sure your rod is stout enough so that you can accurately feel when your jig is on the bottom and when it's falling. Also you need to make a pretty stout hookset, so make sure your rod is up to the task. A baitcasting setup would help here. Good luck! Lots of pigs being caught on jigs this time of year.

Spinning or casting with teeny frogs?
Recently picked up a *** pocket frog for finicky frog fish. Tried throwing it on my frog rod with 50# braid and it went about 10 feet. Any suggestions for throwing this guy around heavy pads? Spinning/casting and braid?

Fall fishing on the Quabbin Reservoir
This thing is money. Totally worth the buy. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Portable-Transducer-Bracket/699847.uts?productVariantId=1183043&WT.tsrc=PPC&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=01781000&rid=20&gclid=Cj0KEQjwvve_BRDmg9Kt9ufO15EBEiQAKoc6qsKk0ZCqaHspcGQqOI9RmrGYZKqKzkzQLFacW4jrS8saAnIS8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds And yeah I give up on smallmouth once they go deep and just go to the pond in hopes of a big largie

Fall fishing on the Quabbin Reservoir
I went Saturday and there was basically no wind. I killed em on the senko. I've found that I don't really catch anything good on senkos when the wind gets going, but that when it's calm they just bite like crazy. Have you experienced anything like this?

Fall fishing on the Quabbin Reservoir
Haha it was so cold I couldn't tie on any new baits cause my fingers wouldn't cooperate. That and I sit in the back of the boat and turn the engine to reverse to act like a trolling motor so I had waves slapping into the stern and splashing me. If I hadn't caught fish it would have been terrible.

Fall fishing on the Quabbin Reservoir
I rented a boat from the eastern gate and hit up the Pottapaug pond. Seems like the jig bite is hot around wood - good luck!

Fall fishing on the Quabbin Reservoir
Had a good day today! 5 or 6 2-3 pounders and a ton of dinks. Estimating that the biggest one was a low 3. Got them on jigs and a whopper plopper.

Broken baitcaster - repairing brakes?
I was out on my local lake today and I tried to boat flip a 2/3 pounder like I've done many times before and the brakes on my reel gave out, the spool disengaged, line easily flew out of the reel (drag was very tight), and I lost the fish. Has anyone else ever had this problem? I can now reel hard backwards and make the spool give out all the time. How do I repair this? The reel in question is a BPS pro qualifier.

Where to put the scale when weighing a fish
This is what I was looking for - thanks!

Where to put the scale when weighing a fish
But if I don't have grippers what do I do, punch a hole in the bass' lips or hook its gills?

Where to put the scale when weighing a fish
Just saw a video where the guy had a spring scale (no grippers) and punched a little hole in the side of the fish's mouth instead of putting the scale in the fish's gills. Where should I place the scale hook when trying to cause the least amount of damage to a fish?

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Found a sweet used bait buy/sell group on facebook and saw a couple deals I just couldn't pass up: Got the snag proof frog lot for $30 and I also picked up 2 90 size whopper ploppers and 2 98 size rovers (1 of each in loon and 1 in powder) for $32. Great value if you ask me, but my wallet's still $62 lighter.

Zero Gravity Weightless Jig
@Mlbassyaker Very interesting! I slapped on a 5" KVD caffeine shad, and it looks pretty good! Only thing I'm worried about is that the profile might be too big. Any thoughts?
