I actually haven't, I will give that a try. How do I add roll? Whenever I try to overhand cast I fling the rod like it's a spinning set up and usually leads to a backlash. I just avoided it as a whole but I still get great casting distance.

Same as for a side arm cast.  Make an arc on the back cast.  Except it is much smaller than with a side arm roll cast.  Roll cast is also called an under hand cast.  Here is an example with a spinning reel.  Same technique with a baitcast reel.

Everyone who switches from spinning to casting has this trouble at first. The release of your thumb needs to be much earlier. Trick your mind... try to cast straight up. Your cast will probably be perfect.

Exactly my issue when trying to use my baitcaster. I am pretty accurate with my spinning reel, but there's no telling where the baitcaster will go, usually anywhere but water!

I practiced with the tape trick and on top of a  parking garage. I used the number of spaces I could cast as a guide. Security came up one day and asked me if I had caught anything yet.... I said yep... one idiot...

Those suspenders are stretched to their max, if they go off, somebody is going to lose an eye!
