I have a Quantum Smoke that needs a couple guides replaced. I was on Mudholes site looking at replacement guides but I'm unsure of how the sizing works. If I'm looking for a 3mm, 4mm, or 5mm guide, is that the inside diameter of the ring or the outside diameter of the frame? I can measure the guides on the rod but am unsure if I need to be measuring inside or outside diameter? Anybody know? Thanks

Guides with ceramic inserts are sized by the ID of the metal frame.

Yes, and that's a stupid way to do it. Makes it very difficult to measure one accurately.

Some of the guide manufacturers post dimensions on their websites. You can try to find yours and match a dimension you are able to easily measure.

i imagine those guides are Fuji MK's in size 4mm or 4.5mm ...

I found some on the Mud hole site that look very close if not the same. Pretty sure I read the the guides are Fuji guides. I can measure either inside or outside easy enough. It would be nice if Mud hole posted dimensions. Also is Mud hole the best place to order from or are there better options? 

Production rod like that I would bet they are 4's.

i use Mudhole for all components except burl cork , Mudhole ships fast and excellent customer service ..

Don't beat me up, purists, but they all are so darned small that if you're off a little , you will never notice it.  Either visually or functionally.

your best way to know for sure is to call quantum and ask them for the sizing and brand of guides , let them know what happened and that you want to replace them and you never know , they might send you some ..

I live 40 minutes away from Mudhole and get all my building components there. very helpful,friendly staff. can and will answer all your questions. if I lived closer to DVT that's where I'd get my stuff.
