boat battery question

Featured Replies

ok i know i think i screwed up. Here's the deal charged the batts and went to the lake sun. Put the boat in the lake and had a dead bat. Now i charged the bat's maybe once or twice over the winter so I know i am probably the reason i have a dead bat. QUESTION. Is it worth the Cash to get a good batt? can i goto say walmart and get a batt. there or goto my local boat shop and get one there? I see they can get expensive and i am asking myself is $150 worth it for a battery? oh BTW went and got it tested at autozone and it is a bad battery

If it was tested and is bad, do you have any prorated warranty left on it?  If you don't, Wal-Mart has the MAXX 29 deep cycles (the big yellow ones) on sale.  I think they are $64.  They are pretty good, not the best but have a 2 year 100% replacement then another couple years of prorated warranty.  I only had one last 2 years yet but I haven't paid for a new one in a few years either.  And when you have a problem, there is always a Wal-Mart close by.

Just my $.02

I've had good service with Interstate, Continental batteries so far. I picked up anouther one made by Battery Plus a year or so ago almost at cost that held it's charge better then any of the others this winter, now I wonder if I shouldn't had bought all he had. I don't know what life I will get from it. Those all retail for about 80.00 - $100. Lost my cranking bat. this winter and it's from Wal Mart that had been on there at least 3 or 4 years maybe a little longer. I only priced the smaller cranking batteries last night when I was up there but they were priced $39.00, $49.00 and $59.00. I didn't see any of the Maxx Marine at the store I was at or notice which if any were the larger deep cycle.

The big yellow Everstart Maxx29 is a dual purpose battery and should work just fine for your cranking battery.   I would not use just a straight automotive cranking battery because they don't like to be run down and fishing with your pumps and electronics on for extended periods play havoc on a straight cranking battery.   By the way, big yellow on has an 18 month free replacement and 19 - 24 month prorated warrenty, but taken care of and they last three years easily.  I swap my batteries out ever three years in my boats and have never had but one go bad before then.  I run the Everstart in  everything but my Javelin because they are fairly cheap and work fine in the other boats (that's 8 of those Everstarts every three years).
