  1. is it safe to plug my onboard battery charger in and leave in pluged in? i am told it's ok to do that but kinda leaves me uneasy. Do you guys do this?
  2. Well is there a certain kind of battery i should buy for the boat? I mean there is all kinds of batts at wal mart . keep in mind it's the moter batt. Or is the MAXX 29 battt the bat i should buy? steve
  3. ok i know i think i screwed up. Here's the deal charged the batts and went to the lake sun. Put the boat in the lake and had a dead bat. Now i charged the bat's maybe once or twice over the winter so I know i am probably the reason i have a dead bat. QUESTION. Is it worth the Cash to get a good batt? can i goto say walmart and get a batt. there or goto my local boat shop and get one there? I see they can get expensive and i am asking myself is $150 worth it for a battery? oh BTW went and got it tested at autozone and it is a bad battery steve
  4. but however ben brings up a good point some small lakes are electirc only. I would do what ben said and do a little research on yer lakes you plan to fish. Would be a shame to spand all that money on a gas powered moter if most the lakes you plan to fish don't allow gas powered boats. steve
  5. hey look at it this way at least ya had the 300 bucks. You could be sitting at home with a broken boat untill you can raise the 300 dollars. steve
  6. when i bought a new boat last year i lookied ALOT at warrenties. All i have to say about nitro's they are good boats and all but i asked myself this why do i wanna spend 20K on a boat and the boat maker (nitro) doesn't trust there boat making ability enough to garantee there hull? Boat makers like skeeter triton statos ranger are among the companies that do garantee there hulls for the life of the boat. speaking for my boat Ranger garantee's my hull for the life of my boat and if i sale it the other guy gets a 10 year warrenty i think it is. Only advise i can give ya is if you decide to go new i would watch yer warrenties with the boat. I went looking last year and have come to the conclusion IMHO all the top boat makers make some good boats. And listen to the guy that said be patent. I started looking for my boat around january and bought in late part of march. Good Luck to ya steve
  7. nice i have a 2004 ranger 180 reatta. Great choice.
  8. ya know what i asked myself that question last year at this time. I just bought a new 2004 Ranger and i like to camp. So i park the thing in a cove. Well I am a worry wort especially when my new boat is parked in the cove, so i asked myself i had 2, 15 lbs river anchors, and well i just couldn't sleep as well so i went out and bought a 30 lbs just to make me sleep better . Yep tho it depends on current, wind etc in yer area. I would think with a 15' a 15 lb should hold the boat nicely. I would go with the 15 lb river anchor, as i feel it holds on the bottom better then the mushroom does. Now you could look at the other kinda anchors that are designed to dig into the bottom but unless yer on like the ohio or mississippi rivers ya just don't needem. Can't go wrong with a river anchor. steve
  9. ok I am pretty sure i know the answer but here goes. This year i am renting a storage place to park my boat. It's closer to the lake i fish and saves on wear and tear and gas. Put i am faced with one problem. How do i charge the batt's? I would like to just plug the charger in and leave it for a week but thats probably not a wise thing to do is it? Anyone have any suggestions about my small problem? It's a little 2 bank MK charge in my boat. steve
  10. My boat has a MK power drive 55lbs thrust. To be honest i would not suggest buying it if you can afford a better brand. The thing with the power drive, is the foot pedal doesn't work like the good moters you haveta steer it by pressing the foot pedal left or right instead of up and down. Well i was at the local boat show and seen a improvement some guy made for it. I haven't had my boat in the water to test it or anything but it looks like it would improve my boat handling skills ALOT. Those of you that do have the powerdrive and are interested heres the web addy www.re-actionsystem.com. But like i said if you can afford the better ones i would go that route even tho the power drive is i think in the 450-500 range. They even offer a model for you cable steer guys, dunno what it does tho. steve
  11. 2004 Ranger Reata 150 Mercury XR6, Lowrance Dephtfinder by the trolling moter, Garmin at the stearing wheel. MK Trolling moter (55lbs) thrust steve
  12. but doesn't cruis when pulling a boat make yer engine work that much harder then not using cruise? I don't use cruise cause i hate it when my engine downshifts to keep the speed at a certain mark. I would rather like the other guy said feather my moter and not work it as hard goin up a hill. I have a 5.2 engine that pulls my boat steve
