Not sure if this is a problem or not. I purchased a new spinning rod and reel today. The reel is a Sedona 1000. I spooled it with 6lb flourocarbon and it spooled a little unevenly... with more toward the back of the reel. I cast it a few times to see if it would even out but didn't. Also.. I've never used flouro before and it seemed to want to keep flying off the reel well after the lure landed. I can see this is going to take a little getting used to.. and read something about using line conditioner... will this help? Thanks!

Some reels come with little shims to put under the spool to fix how the line spools up. 

Fluoro is very finicky. 

Yes, kvd l&l will help. 

I think it is desirable to have the line wound thicker in the back, makes it easier for the line to peel off the spool as it is pulled forward off the spool and through the guides.

This is just a theory though, I've not got anything to back it up.

By shims do you mean the washer type? This one didn't but I have another Sedona that did have them in the box that I would think I could use.

Anytime I've had line strip off a spinning reel, I have found that I have a tad too much on.  Cut some off and see if that helps. I also am at the point that I can't stand flouro on spinning reels and just do braid with a leader.  

As for being uneven in the back, see if you can put a thinner washer under the spool or remove one if there are two.

You don't want to fill a spinning reel to the top, especially with fluorocarbon.  I fill mine to about 1/8"- 1/4" below the spool edge and that avoids the problem.   Also, at the end of a cast, close the bail with your fingers, not with the handle, and give the line a little tug to reseat the line on the spool.  Do that awhile and it will become second nature, and will avoid line jumping off the spool unless it has become badly twisted.

as far as the uneven line, I think adding shim washers will spool line more toward the back of the spool.  Adding a thinner washer will move line toward the front. 

i am not sure how a washer would help if line is being bunched in the back of the spool unless i am misunderstanding what you mean by the back.   I am reading that as the side of the spool closest to the rod blank, not the top or bottom of the spool.

 

Fly fisher, not sure what you're saying.  Spool shim washers are put on the axle that holds the spool.  When added, they cause the spool to sit a little more forward on the axle, causing the line to spool more toward the rear of the spool.

ok i see now.  I was thinking more than the spool was misshapen or something.  and yeah remove a washer and that will fix it

The top of the spool is almost right for how much line but once you fix the line lay issue it'll be too much. Fix that first and then see where you're at.  You should have about 3-4mm from the edge of the spool lip. Like it is now at the top.

I own this reel in the 3000 size i got it when it first came out less than a year ago and I've started to have some issues with it I really wish I would have spent a little more and gotten something better my plans are to give it to my brother and get a nasci, you get what you pay for, it's still a nice little reel however.
