Lower Unit

Featured Replies

I screwed up my lower unit and took it to get fixed. The mechanic wants to put a new lower unit on and when the insurance adjuster got there he wants to put a refurbished unit on. The motor only has 47hours on it and is still under warranty from Yamaha. I told the insurance adjuster this would not be acceptable.( yamaha 250HPDI) What do you think? Oh my insurance is with Progressive >:)

Is this a warranty issue?  If it is a warranty issue I would say "I dont think so."

No its not a warranty issue. Was fishing a tourny and got in a rush, didn't raise the jackplate and gassed on the motor, wooooooooops 14" of water w/ a piece of rebar stuck in the mud. Only caught the motor, not the boat!!!

Not sure how Yamaha will look at it, but that's who I would be contacting.  Since you've broke the original one through no fault of their's, they are not going to warrenty somebody else's rebuilt LU under ther original new motor warrenty.  Not sure they will even warrenty one of their new ones under the motors warrenty agreement since it's a replacement part and would probably only have the replacement part warrenty.   I would make every effort to get as much warrenty as possible because if the replacement fails and the insurance decides it was a bad part, they are gonna leave you high and dry with $1,500 - $3,000 repair bill looking you in the face if theirs no warrenty left on the replacement.

Gotta agree with Ben on this one. Using an aftermarket part voids Yamaha's warranty on the lower unit.  Get ahold of your ins. agent and scream bloody hell!

IVE HEARD OF ALOT OF PEOPLE  HAVING PROBLEMS WITH  PROGRESSIVES  WARRANTY DEPARTMENT

Progressive's adjuster tells me that it is their policy to use refurbished parts. The gloves are off and the fight is on. I can't stand to be defeated, stay tuned for round 2 >:) >:)

I wonder if all the work was done at a certified Yamaha dealership if that might solve the problem. They might be able to inspect/approve the used lower unit as to not void the manufacturers warranty. Addtionally your insurance company would be getting the usual inflated dealership service department pricing. I don't know how many of these insurance adjusters sleep at night.

What is the warrantee on the rebuilt? If it is Yamaha rebuilt it may be as good a warrantee as a new lower.

Yamaha don't do any refurbs or remans, only new. the refurbished comes with 30 day. If I put a new one on from Yamaha they said it would still be under the oring. 5yr warranty. The battel still rages on!!!!!

The battel has ended after two weeks. Progressive authorized all new parts from Yamaha and they are flipping the bill( less $250 deductable). This has been the worst dealings with an insurance company I've ever had. :)

Publish what you did to win.  Not many get away so lucky, they let the insurance company dictate to them what they will pay for and make it sound like that's their only option.  Good to hear you won the battle.
