Inflatible fishing boats

Featured Replies

Would like to know any experiences with inflatable fishing boats.

I live in New Jersey and would be fishing on lakes.   Any pros and cons would be appreciated.  Thanks.   :-/

I made the misstake and bought an inflatable boat.  I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.  It is VERY uncomfortable to sit in.  You obviously can't stand up in it much.  And it is a pain in the butt blowing it up everytime you go.  I wish I just would have bought a small aluminum boat instead, or even a canoe.

My first "bass boat" was an inflatable that was called a 2 man.  It was practically a pool toy. I had to sit sideways in it with my legs over the side.  I would drift or paddle around in ponds.  It worked but I got rid of it pretty quick.

My next "bass boat" was also an inflatable.  But this time I got something a little more real.  It was a heavy duty neoprene (?) inflatable.  Anyway it was a thick shelled yellow job, with separate air bladders.  This is ESSENTIAL. If one pierces you still have air in the tube and can get to safety.

It had these little oar locks and I could get around ok, but it was uncomfortable because their was no hard floor.  So I got a peice of 1/2" plywood and cut it to size. I had a foot pump and would only deflate it enough to fit in my car.  It was still not a safe or smart way to go, but I was already a ***atic and it was this or stay on the bank.

Everything got better when I got my first pickup truck.  I bought a 14' jon boat and a minn kota.

On Long Island that was all anyone needed to fish like a pro.

I've got a Sevylor Fish Hunter and it is great for fishing.  I'm going to be adding a transom so I can use a trolling motor with it.  This boat was given to me for Christmas so I couldn't beat the price.
