How does pond fishing translate to lakes?

I had a biologist tell me once that the actual definition of a pond is any man made body of water, regardless of size. Apparently it came from farming ponds that were almost always man made.  I think I read that some States classify them that way.

You are probably right but I can't call it Ky Pond because its man made. LOL...160,000 acres will be a lake to me no matter what. I guess we all have our own definition.

I personally don't consider 25 acre's a pond. Its not thousands of acres like the one I fish but still pretty big.

I dig your point, and I can agree to an extent, but a 25 acre manmade "lake" with a spillway is a lot different from a manmade hydroelectric lake in terms of tactics. I fish a reservoir that's big for a "pond" and I had to change a lot of my thinking to have success there. There's rarely a noticeable current there. It's big enough to have structure and different things bass can be doing at any given time, but small enough that you know you've drug a bait by a bunch of fish in the course of a day. Bass on that hydro power lake can get away from you.

There is no official definition of a "pond" and this isn't surprising considering the possible permutations. One definition of a "pond", commonly used, and I like, is a small water body (~under 100acres) that is shallow enough that light can penetrate to the bottom. Obviously, this doesn't cover everything, but works since we bass fishers are most interested in the functional aspects of water bodies.
