Looking at buying a dedicated rod for throwing A-Rigs.  I'm going to stick with my current rod brand and they offer two rods for this presentation.  One rod is heavy and rated for 1/2-2 oz. and the other is XHvy and 1-4 oz.  Both rods are 7'11" and have mod-fast actions but lean more to the fast side but do have some tip.  I've handled both and neither can be considered wimpy.   Which rod do you guys suggest I choose.  BTW I throw the 5 arm rigs with four 1/8oz heads and one 1/4oz with baits in the 3 inch range. 

Well since your intention is to throw a light weight A rig ( less than 1 ounce roughly ) I would guess the Heavy rod should handle the job.  What you wish to throw should fall almost in the middle of that rod's spec for lure weight.  I figure 3/4 of an ounce of lead, add the body weight of the swim baits and the rig can't total more than an ounce and a half.  If you ever think you might go heavier in the rig then the XHVY would be better. Does either rod have enough tip to maybe double for some big swimbaits? Just a thought  Just before you make up your mind take a look at an Irod Genesis II A rig rod.

Thanks for the reply's.   One thing I didn't take into consideration was some of the rigs I throw are bladed.  I really don't know how much weight that would add.  Fishnkamp, yes both rods have enough tip that they could be used as swimbait rods, which after thinking about has me leaning more towards the XHvy which would allow me to throw both.

Once you put on all the baits on and weigh it, it will far exceed 1oz, may exceed 2oz too depending on the baits you put on it. My 9 bait rig that I have is rigged with 2 blades, 4X 2.5" dummy grubs, 2X 2.5" swimbaits on a standard wire 1/0 EWG hook, and 1X 3.5" swimbait on a 1/8oz weighted 4/0 swimbait hook. The whole thing weights a hair over 1.5oz. Be careful with the weights.
