Mono for frog

Featured Replies

Hey guys, ive always frogged with braid but for a couple weeks i will be fishing with a very limited amount of rods because i sold off my reels and bought new ones.

I have a reel spooled up with 15lb big game. Would this line be enough for frogging? Not into real heavy cover. Just over regular weeds. Or should i bump up to 20

I suppose it would work, but I'd stick with braid. Eliminating stretch helps set those finicky frog hooks. Not to mention that I find braid easier to impart action with frogs.

If you're not going to use braid, and the weeds/cover doesn't call for a frog, I'd be throwing some other type of topwater bait, like a buzzbait.

I understand what you are saying but in this circumstance i have to leave my bait in a strike zone for a little longer than i could a buzzbait, and a walking or poping bait wont work because the weeds are all the way up to the surface. Therefore the best bait would be a frog.

17-20lb stren mono is my preference. when he takes it reel until you feel pressure then swing,\

the 15lb will do but i would personally prefer a little hevier.
