MK Trolling Motor Tension?

Featured Replies

I have a MK Maxxum bow mount trolling motor.  I constatnly have to tighten the tension adjustment.  It will last one day of fishing maybe then I'll have to tighten it again because the pedal control is too loose and sloppy making it hard to control especially at the higher speeds. :D

The motor is only a couple of months old.  Is there another adjustment I'm missing or is it just the cables stretching and breaking in?  I don't have an owner's manual for it or I'd refer to that.  Planning on having the dealer check it out when I take it in for regular maintenance but that probably won't be until the end of the season.

Thanks. :D

My MK 74 Maxuum is over a year old and I have never adjusted the tension on it. It works as good as the day I installed it. Just this past weekend a buddy of mine had his cable come apart from the pedal. He lost all control of the TM and had to quit fishing. He said all he hed to do was take it apart by the pedal and put everything back together and it works fine.......

If your Motor is only a couple of months old, I would bring it back to the place you bought it from. I bought mine and had it installed at the same place and I know that if anything like this came up with my Motor that they would fix it ASAP. They are just good people at my local TM Shop. Your pedal should not be coming loose like that. Especially with it being so new.
