Nitro Boat (482 / NX 750)

Featured Replies

Anyone on here own a Nitro 482 or NX 750? Im looking to buy one in the upcoming weeks and was hoping to get some real world feedback. The salesman assured me its the greatest thing ever built. But Im confused because the Skeeter salesman told me the same thing!?!? LOL

Thanks

I've fished out of Nitro and Skeeter, and they both are good boats.

Assuming they are both close to the same price, I'd go with the one with the bigger motor.

floorplan on the nitro is great i think    theres more to it than just buying the bigger motor   what years are the boats what conditions are the boats which one has the floor plan best suited for you

I was under the impression he was buying them new.

yep i didnt catch that part :D   guess you should just go with  which everone graps your eye and is more appealing to you   goodluck on whatever your choice

Thanks

They are brand new. And im definitely wanting to go with the Nitro over a Skeeter. I was just making sure no one was going to come back with a horror story about how their Nitro fell apart in two years yada yada yada.

Just thought I'd throw in my .02 since I recently researched and purchase a new boat about that size.

I've fished from a Nitro before but it was one of the big fancy 9 series.  It fished great and the guy that owned it loved it but of course he did because he just happened to be a Nitro Sales rep  :D  Anyway...

I seriously considered a Nitro against the boat I ended up buying after narrowing the two down from  the other brands (Skeeter, Ranger, Triton, Stratos, Nitro, Champion and more) mostly based on price, function and options.

I didn't see any major problems with the Nitro.  The only thing that made me leary was that just about every other boat sales rep (champion, triton, and stratos specifically) told me to avoid the Nitro brand in particular out of all the other brands.  Now it could be that is just because the Nitro is a good value that they knew they couldn't match.

I think if you are going to use it on weekends and vacations with an occasional tournament like most of us do the Nitro is good.  I think if you are going to get really serious and  fish a lot of tournaments in big water you might do better with a different brand or move up to the Nitro 9 series (Heck KVD, Clun and Evers run 9's and it is their livelyhood).

IMHO it all comes down to being happy with what you spend your hard earned $ on.  I mostly went with my boat, Stratos,  because it was a good deal and had all the options I wanted and a layout I liked but most importantly it would do what I wanted it to do the best of anything I looked at and stayed within my budget.  The people I talked with that owned them were all pleased with them for the most part too.

Good luck and enjoy the journey to ownership!

i owned a skeeter 2002 and now own a Procraft.  I LOVE my procraft much more than my skeeter.

as long as your looking check them out

I have some experience with both the models you mention.

If you purchase either, PLEASE get the biggest engine you can afford within the boat's rating limitations, or at least the 115 or 135, hopefully. This has proven critical to the Nitro in most cases. You'l be sorry if you don't, performance and fuel economy-wise, and your trade/resale value will suffer.

BTW, a good friend has the 115 with an upgraded prop and his boat performs well enough even with my fat rear in it.

Also, GET THE OPTIMAX! The 4-stroke adds a LOT of weight and this can cause issues as well. Don't let the dealer whipsaw you into the 4-stroke OR the 90 HP of either type engine. I cannot over-stress this . The Opti is the OPTIMUM engine for this boat.

If you can, make CERTAIN that you get a 24V trollmotor. Either the Minn-Kota 74 or the equivalent Motor-Guide. One of the Nitros I've fished from has the MG Digital and that is the most well-mannered and easy-to-manuever TM I've ever operated, bar none, and the recessed pedal position on the Nitro makes it even moreso.

There have been some issues with Nitro dealers. Of course, I doubt there's a dealer in the world with whom someone, somewhere, hasn't had an "Issue". LOL. Be careful and very, very, selective in that regard. Try to speak with other owners who have bought boats from the particular dealer in question, especially those who've had their Nitros for a year or more.

Lastly, I agree with those who advise you to choose, in great part, your boat based on the waters you will most likely fish. If you are gonna be on "Big" water, a lake overrun with skiers, lake lice, and party boats, then you might be wise to "save up" and get a bigger, thus safer, boat.

Lastly, save up, if need be, and get at least one graph that features GPS (If only one, then it should be at the driver's position, not the bow.)earn to use it. This can be a true boon to your fishing AND to your safety as well. Caveat: Do NOT rely totally on the GPS to navigate at night or in reduced visibility situations...take that Q-Beam along too and go slow.

I'm not assuming you are a total newbie to all this, just covering some important "bases".

Good luck, be safe, and enjoy your new toy!

Looking  forward to my next trip in a Nitro!

Peeyess: First after-market purchases: Spare TM prop! Then get someone who is really experienced to help you "tune" your new rig for maximum performance and fuel economy (Maybe an SS prop?) This WILL pay off.

PM me if you want a recommendation as to how to learn more about that.

i own a nitro640LX and am happy with it..i looked at skeeters and picked the nitro because of price and it had more storage..nitro does seem to put lower hp motors on as standard equip...mine has a 60hp..it's ok for me as i fish by myself and don't fish any really big lakes..i also think that nitro's might be a little lower quality but i only fish weekends and no tournaments and it's fine for me..i think it's a good value and a good boat

Sweet lots of good info here.

First Im really leaning towards the 482 with the 135 optimax. And of course money is the bottom line that I dont jump to a 150. I appreciate the reassurance on the optimax, becuase the dealer is pushing the 4 stroke hard.

As far as the 9 series...with two new cars and a house (house closing is next week) in the past 12 months, I cant take on a 45k boat. I will continue to wish though.

There is times I will be in big water, but not recreational waters. Places such as Okeechobee, kissimmee, etc that would allow me to tuck out of the elements if need be. But it will be  mostly weekends, occasional tournys, etc.

One of the only brands I havent looked into is the Stratos (I forgot about those actually).

Ive already got the electronics (gps too). And yes life is much much better with the right ones. I appreciate the feedback and look forward to anymore.

ive got the 135 opti  its a great motor  and its also pushin a nitro   have fun

I could tell you some stories about Nitro and BPS but I won't.

:D

Personally, If you're not interested in a Champion (my choice) then definitely do yourself a favor and look at a Stratos before you make up your mind.  Great riding boats, very well laid out and quality construction.

The "dealer is pushing the 4-stroke hard" came as no surprise. One of my buddies got whipsawed into taking a 4-stroke when they replaced his defective Nitro (which had a NON-4-stroker). He still regrets it. Worse yet, it's a 90.

Re: The suggestion that you should take a closer look at a Stratos....DO IT!

Thanks - Ill be researching the stratos' this week.

I have a Nitro 482 with the 115..its a great boat for the money for sure! Never had any problems, I have had it since feb of this year..the only problem I have had is the trailer is a big ole pos!! If you are thinking of going with the 135..I wouldnt, atleast not on the 482..I have drove mine as well as one with a 135..and not much difference for the money..if you looking to spend alittle extra..the 591 is the best choice..comes with 135 and wider and longer..good luck
