Loomis CR721, thoughts and info wanted

Hi,

I am on the hunt for a short BFS rod and have not found much about the CR721.  I just picked up a CR723 and really like how it handles and fishes.  My main question about the 721 is how it handles lures at and below it's lower rating.  I ran a search and while the rod does get mentioned here from time to time, no one has gone into much detail about them.

Thanks

Great little rod. It's lowest rating is 3/16, but it handles 1/8 with the right reel.  My favorite was a 51e with shallow avail spool.

CR721 + Daiwa Pixy/Chronarch 50 MG + 6/8 lb Nylon ----> small lure awesomeness !

I am going to pair it with a PX68, so it sounds like I am on the right track.  I don't see myself going under 3/16 very often, but would like to throw a weightless finesse worm/plastic if I need too.

I had a CR721 GLX, it is no longer made as you can only get it in the IMX now. I used it for fishing small finesse plastics, the short length made it perfect for underhand or roll casting up under overhanging trees. I loved taking a 4.5" Slug-O and cutting it down to 3.25", the 3" wasn't on the market yet, then fishing it on a 1/8oz ball head jig and I like doing the same thing with a trick worm, it was a different action than the T-rig. The rod was perfect for that close quarters finesse fishing and I think it would make a great BFS rod.

Late to the party, but I have an IMX CR721 with a PX68R. It is a great combo for weightless worms. I run 6 (8 pound at the most) monofilament on mine.

It's not the latest but one of the best light action rods still on the market. I think the combo weighs about 8 ounces or so.
