Lake Lopez ca

Featured Replies

I'm heading over to Lopez on Friday. The lake is at 40% and rising!! Just wondering if anyone had any recent reports on the lake or has been there recently. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

well I had a disappointing trip... fished for 8 hours with out a single bite. the water was mud 2 inch visibility and the water temp was 58. not sure what I was doing wrong but headed back next weekand to try again...

In muddy water Bass only feel safe if they have their nose basically touching cover. Logs or dock poles are obvious places to start. Pitch a jig as close as you can to the target. Multiple pitches to each target. You basically have to hit them on the head and they will bite out of pure reaction more than anything. Pay attention to where your bait is when it gets bit. Outside of dock poles in ten feet of water etc... Maybe you can start to put together a pattern and start skipping unproductive areas. Good luck. Let us know.

do you think any style of reaction baits would work in 56 to 58 degree super muddy water?

How many feet did the lake raise? I would stay with a rattle back black type jig and black/red DD22 targeting all the major points with flooded brush and rocky areas.

Mid level there isn't much brush to target but wood is a key during pre spawn so try to find a few trees, brush or stick ups. Tournament anglers often drag brush or small trees to key areas and sink it about 10 to 20 feet deep. The next important elements are rock piles or rock to red clay transition areas, fish those seems and any isolated rocks in 10 to 20 feet of water.

The water is so muddy... what would you use for 2 inch visibility?
