Installing a USB port

Featured Replies

Hey yall,

I'm looking to install a usb port on my bass tracker.  Has anyone ever done this or maybe hardwired something?

Thanks!

If you have a 12v DC accessories outlet, something like this might work

I bought 2 usb/DC outlets off of Amazon. They are waterproof and easy to install. I ran them right to my fuse panel. That was about 2 years ago and have not had any issues.

Do you remember which one you got? Could you post a link. I would like it to be waterproof.

Here is the link

I used 12 AWG marine grade wire

Not sure how many feet you have to run the wire, but I used 12awg because of the amp draw of the DC outlet. You will also need 2

12-10 AWG HEAT SHRINK QUICK DISCONNECT WIRE TERMINAL FEMALE

Like I said it was fairly easy to install. I used a hole saw for the outlets and the rest was pretty simple.

Sorry I tend to ramble on. I'll be happy to help if you have any more questions

Just an update. Installed a dual USB port. One port at 1 amp for my gopro. One port at 2.1 for smartphones. The charging speed is pretty good. Glad I did this. 2lideh4.jpg

Nice job. Is that the one from amazon?  If it is, my buddy just ordered one too.

He asked me to borrow a hole saw for it and I forgot what size the saw needed to be.

Nice Work ~

And for those who already have an 'accessories' outlet and are looking for a similar GoPro USB fitment ~

GoPro Offers this - http://shop.gopro.com/accessories-2/auto-charger/ACARC-001.html

Be testing mine out here in a few weeks - hopefully.

Mine is from Amazon. The hole was just over an inch. I used an inch and filed it down to fit.

Yes but be sure if you decide to go with a non go pro alternative that you charge the go pro with a 1 amp outlet. I've read that the 2.1 amp will damage the batteries.

I've got the generic version for mine and a 6' USB extension cable so I don't have to worry about battery life anymore. I can just plug it in and let it run off my boat battery. It works really well.

I have a similar set up for the Old Town (accessory outlet on both battery boxes) & the Lund.
