Row Boat Tips

Featured Replies

Ok, me and a buddy of mines picked up a row boat. It has a motor, electric, but we have no battery and for the time being we gotta row(we're broke lol). Anyways when rowing, are there any tips i should know? Lately from what i think how we've been rowing is horrible.

row with your back to the front, you should be looking out the back of the boat.

Like above, face the rear of the boat.  You want to pull the oars to you not push away.  The first couple of strokes are the most difficult to get the boat moving, then you want to 'maintain' that speed and the strokes can get a little softer.  Make sure you are getting the paddle all the way in the water, sometimes this requires a little higher hand position.  Use the left oar to go right and the right oar to go left, if you need to turn even tighter use the oppisite oar to push, this can spin you on a dime (if not moving).

Hope this helps, keep at it gets easier.

Well you see i can't push...Its a two person thing. There aren't any holes or objects u can put the paddle through, u just gotta row freely like a kayak or canoe.

This is something else I used to do when I was 9 or 10 and I did it in a 14foot boat so you should be able to do it. I would take one paddle and go to the very front and paddle from there. just make sure you have some kind of weight in the back of the boat like your friend then you can switch spots. The reason you want weight in the back is because if you dont you will be front heavy and the boat will try to turn on you. Just make sure only one person paddles at a time or else it isnt going to work trust me.
