Motor Guide Pedestal Problem

Featured Replies

The small switch on the right side of the trolling motor pedestal that you press down with your foot to turn the Motor Guide trolling motor on and off went "flat" yesterday and stopped working.

Do you think I could fix it or do you all suggest taking it to 1) a local guy who specializes in Motor Guide trolling motors or 2) driving 80 miles to Bass Pro Shop to have them fix it as the Lowrance trolling motor sonar unit was installed by the BPS service center and I don't want to be damaged?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

it is just a momentary, normally closed, pressure switch...

you can pick it up at nearly any electrical supply house, radio shack, or auto supply place for about 6-8 bucks. Takes about 10 minutes to change...just two screws holding it on...the hardest part is taking the foot pedal apart and putting it back together...just make sure you get the wires back on the same terminals and buy the same size ( both in amperage and physical size) switch.

Motor Guide Part # 87-MAP15104

The rubber boot is what failes on mine, the switch still works fine. Never did check if I could get just the boot but I did notice where the rocker comes in contact with the Micro Switch it is just a ridge with a cavity in the center. I filled the cavity with silicone and this made a larger contact area for the switch, the switch lasts consirerable longer.

the same thing happened to me acouple weeks ago..it was the rubber boot and i ordered a couple from a dealer and had them sent to my house seeing that the closest dealer is over an hour away..

Did you get the switch or just the rubber boot, my dealer said they didn't offer just the boot. Haven't tried the local electrical supply house (no time) that handles Micro-Switch and get just the boot. But filling the cavity on the rocker (the part you step on) with silicone extended the life of the boot X2 at least.

i was able to get just the boot..make sure you talk to a authorized motor guide dealer or maybe your dealer is trying to make a few extra bucks!!!!!!!  i called marine usa in worcester,ma..a nitro boat dealer and motorguide dealer..they sent the boot right out to me but i may have gotten the last one!!!!!!!!!!
