Opinions on the St Croix Legend Tournament Bass as Smallmouth/ Walleye Rod

Featured Replies

I'm wanting opinions  on the 7'1 MF St Croix Legend Tournament Bass spinning rod  that will be used as smallmouth / walleye rod . I'm also looking at the Avid X , 7' MF . The  particular store I'm dealing with doesn't have much to offer in the regular Avid series but they have the Avid X . I have gift certificate , so I'm going to purchase a rod there .

Opinions ?

They're both excellent all purpose spinning rods. The seat on the LTB is love it or hate it. I have a 6'6" MF Avid and love it. But it all comes down to your application. I don't think they're ideal for really small finesse baits or dropshot, but I'm far from a dropshot expert. For that stuff I'd be looking at a ML F or XF in a St Croix.

I was leaning toward the Avid but the store doesn't have it . Not sure about the micro guides on the Avid X . I'll get a hands on later this week .

Thanks

I have the 6'3" MLXF LT Walleye rod, spinning, and find

it a fantastic rod. I really like the reel seat, and despite

sensitivity, it's a smidgeon tip heavy. BUT, not as much

as the Avid I use to have. I'd take the LT any day over

an Avid, personally.

I love the higher end blanks but the reel seat on the LTB spinning is just not my thing.  The avid is so so but the avid-x feels good.  All three are good for diffrent reasons, and i would choose the x for my application because small guides are not a problem for me.  People further north that deal with ice it can be a real issue.  The decision depends on if you like the LTB reel seat then go with that.

I've held but not fished an Avid X. It was very nice and well balanced. I wouldn't hesitate to get one. Certainly the LTB is a slightly better blank, but not night and day in my hands. But the reel seats on the current LTBs I personally loathe so the only LTBs I have are the prior generation.
