Spinning reel - front/center/rear line load?

Featured Replies

Just received my new Shimano Stradic C3000HG and in the packaging I found a package of washers that left me confused. Upon examination it said to consult the instructions regarding the "winding shape" of the spool.

Being a mature American male I actually forced myself to open the instructions and discovered the possibility of FRONT or REAR loading the spool. The factory setting being level winding from front to rear.

I have never seen this, or payed attention anyway! But this is the best quality spinning reel I have purchased.

What would be the reason for wanting the spool loaded unevenly? Casting distance is the only thing I can think of but how would it be affected?

you dont want it to load uneven, the shims are there to allow you to make an adjustment so it will load even.  add if the load is on top and remove if to much at the bottom!

Well thanks, while that makes sense I would've thought that would be factory verified prior to shipment.

Thank you sir!

Too many different lines that could load differently.

Without spooling it with the line YOU want to use there is no way to tell if the line lay will be correct. I have the same reel and if I go from braid to mono I have to add a shim to get the line lay right.

You, sir, are a man we can all look up to. Though
I do suspect you meant to write that in the sarcasm

font ;) .

Being a tech guy, I never open the instructions! :D

I am insufferably immature...and lovin' it, LOL!!!!

Yes sir Darren, Sarcasm is always required.

My Grandchildren always ask, "Is that sarcasm Papa?".

Can't help myself!
