Guide problem

Featured Replies

Do you builders come across situations when guides are backordered? This is a new experience for me, but I don't order a lot of stuff.

Yep.  Waiting on a couple BKWAG6s right now. Thought I had them, but NOOOOOOO.  When I place an order, I usually order a couple extra in various sizes that I use, to build a small inventory.  I now have about 500 guides laying around the shop, but not the couple I need for this particular build!!

What are you waiting for?  I have a pretty good selection of blank Alconites.

Yes, it often happens.  Consider how many guides a dealer would have to stock to have everything in stock.  Most dealers get orders in weekly from the manufacturers, so delays longer than a week from order to ship are a little unusual with most dealers.  If you're seeing that often, then you might want to try a different dealer.

I do what Scott does. Order a few extra guides with every build, and acquire an inventory of my most commonly used guides. Don't have 500, but have enough to build three or four rods.

I have a bit of a problem.   I'm embarrassed by how many blanks I have too!

The down side of accumulating guides for me is that I'll get a bunch of them, then I'll fall in love with something new that comes onto the market, and I won't want to use the others.

I'm waiting for an Alconite BKLAG-20-H ordered on 2/23. Scott, sounds like we're both waiting for the same slow boat! Thanks for the offer but I guess I'll just hang in there, or else switch it to a black Sic (probably what they want everybody to do). I bet if I wanted Torzite I'd be able to get as many as I wanted! I need the rest of the stuff on the order to get started anyway. I'm a hobby builder so I'm not really holding any one up but my son, and I think he might be able to get by without it a while longer by the looks of my garage. Lynn

By the way, we should all appreciate the freedom of speech we have on this forum. Some forums don't care for this type of topic to be discussed. And I don't care a great deal for censorship.

If memory serves me, I have about a half dozen of those.  Problem is, it would cost as much to mail it as the guide costs!

Now you're speaking my language! If I'm not complaining about backorders, I am about shipping costs. Gotta love Utmost Enterprises for that reason alone.

The majority of my stuff comes from Bingham Enterprises. Karen didn't have those guides so I tacked them on my Mudhole order.  Mudhole has some winding checks and butt caps I use that are exclusive to them and I also had a customer that wanted a MHX blank.  With 2 suppliers out of the same guide, my guess is that they're back-ordered from Angler's Resource......and on a slow boat from China!

Scott your guess would be exactly correct. That would be 500mi. from Orlando. While not ordered from Mudhole, they are coming from very nearby. I'm not casting blame on the dealers here.

Well those alconite 20 h's never made it to Florida so I switched it to a Sic instead. Cost $5.00 more but at least it's on it's way. I didn't realize the delivery guy had to change horses 3 times between Foley and Oviedo. I always have and always will love Fuji stuff. It the stuff against which all others are judged.
