Mr. Don Burgett

The "ww2" in my screen name goes all the way back to when I was 11 years old and read Don's book "Currahee!: A Screaming Eagle at Normandy." that I checked out of the elementary school library in 4th grade.........and so began my lifelong affair with studying these great real American Hero's.

While there were more decorated hero's of the war, or more well known author's about their personal exp., Don's books are a fantastic, no-nonsense, often comical, and very real telling of his story and well worth the read.

The sacrifices made in that war were enormous.  My grandfather (mother's father), was shot down over Germany.  He was in the RAF, flying in a Mosquito when he perished.

I have read many history books about WWII, I will check out the author you referenced above, thanks.

Rest in Peace, your watch is over!

He was part of America's Greatest Generation!
