boats are not cheap

Featured Replies

well after fighting with fixin the trim motor i pulled off 2 months ago, i finally gave up (really i had to, it was falling apart) and purchased a new motor and pump assembly.

There was nothing wrong with the pump, but you cant find/buy a replacement motor to work with my original pump.  so instead of $240ish for a motor, i had to buy the whole dadgum thing, motor and pump, for $450. Heck, I only paid $2500 for the boat to gegin with.

This is a fair warning to all when looking at older used boats.  These type things will pop up with older boats (mine is an 86 Skeeter).

It never ends does it JB, I was out getting the boat ready for tomorrow and I noticed the bow running light lens was missing  :-?

The boat monkey strikes when we least expect, and demands his fair share!

From Merriam-Webster online.

Main Entry: 1boat

Pronunciation: 'bOt

Function: noun

Etymology: Middle English boot, from Old English bAt; akin to Old Norse beit boat

1 a : a small vessel for travel on water b : SHIP

2 : a boat-shaped container, utensil, or device <a gravy boat> <a laboratory boat>

3 : an opening in the surface of a body of water that large sums of money are deposited into.

Amen Cart7,  I wish all I had to replace on my used boat was a trim assembly, Id gladly replace it 10 times instead of replacing the whole engine, $$$$ :'( :'(

Hobby's, aren't they wonderful, every time I go to Cabelas and spend $30 to $50 for lures and plastic for that week's tourney I think  about how fortunate I am, paying the $25 to $60 for entry fee's I think how fortunate I am, you see the last hobby was circle track dirt racing, entry fee $100 for me and the crew(pit Passes), $100 for fuel (at least), $200 at least for tires average each week, hit one of them concrete wall's and grab the wallet, it's gonna hurt. $4500 to freshen that very expensive motor up, at least once during the season. Have a catastrospic failure of the rotating mechanism (blow up) and, well that would put you in a nice Skeeter or Stratus. I do miss the racin, 40+ yrs of them war's leaves a mark, both on your body and your wallet, but this fishin thing is all right, relaxing, rewarding, and a lot less expensive.  Got back into it in 2001 and haven't hit any concrete walls or had the bottom side up and that is a plus. Every time I hit the water I think how fortunate I am, and between here and BDO you'all have taught me a lot, enlightened me to this wonderful sport, just wish I had started sooner. Thank You All.

Boat ----> a hole in the water where you sink your money into.

My little brother races his Mustang for a hobby

Current costs to date for the car about 70,000.00.  This does not include track fees, dyno shop costs, or the like (and the car is street legal)

Last time he ran, dumped the rear end, into about 150 little pieces all over the track, bent the axles, etc.....  he is having to sue the guy who did the work,  it is a racing shop and the guy told him,, "oh we do not warranty anything if you race the car"   :o :o   >;) >:) >:o.

So feel I feel fortuanate my hobbies do not cost an arm and a leg,, although a gas motor having to go in the shop would probably break me,   ::) ::).

I am glad I fish with TMs on small lakes.

Or, JB could buy a new boat for, say, $45,000 or so. :-/

Maybe that $3,000 isn't so bad after all.

Just trying to make you fell better. ;)

Oh yes, and the bigger the boat, the bigger the hole it makes so you can sink larger sums off money into it.

Look at it like this though, if you wasn't spending the money of boats, motors, and other necessary fishing items like custom rods, high quality reels, you would be spending you would be spending it on other things or your wife would have that much more to spend shopping
