  1. That's a chunk right there, Congrats!! The hardest strike I have ever had was at night, I flipped a jig next to a pylon and before I even picked it up the bass swam away from me at what felt like sonic speed. My rod doubled over so fast I thought it was going to break. I didn't even have to set the hook. The fish might have weighed 3 to 3 1/2, During that first initial strike I swore it was a 10 plus .
  2. I've had decent luck this year using a jig and chigger craw trailer. Black/blue And black or dark colored monster worms. The docks that I target usually have schooling shad nearby . I do it no different than I do during day. I pitch to the pylons and cover. I love it, They hit more aggressive and the weather is nicer than the 100 degree days LOL. As far as the moon goes I pay no attention to it. I know that sounds lame but I go when I can full moon or not.
  3. Welcome and come on up to Guntersville every now and then... Roll Tide!!
  4. All your waypoints were erased? Oh my God! Now for me that wouldn't be that bad because I haven't thoroughly graphed a lake yet and any waypoints on my GPS are still just "suggestions". But if I'd charted out a lake thoroughly and had a kid erase all the waypoints, I think I'd puke! You don't have them backed up on your 'puter? Kids seem to come in two categories-the kind that know waaay more than me about computers/technology and the kind that seem to destroy everything they touch. Actually, adults aren't so different. Yup, All gone.. The handheld GPS was a older one that just marked the coordinates where you were. I should have stated that was a couple years ago but it still makes me sick today to think about it. My nephew is a good kid, smart too and I cant blame him 100%, He was only 10 at the time and I know remember what I was like at 10.. LOL . I have taken him fishing several time since and he's eager and willing to learn. I'd rather take him fishing than my brother anyways :-X.
  5. Year around here in Alabama as well.
  6. My brother (Lord help him) and his son get on the boat starts peeling the line of of his reels because they were left leaning where he last them whether they were outside inside or beside the gas cans just wherever . I have to untie the boat in my boat slip push off and maneuver around his rods sons rods his new just purchased paper/plastic bag tackle box just to get going. He is installing line and trying to rig on the way. My nephew who loves to fish is cold and sleepy and moving around like a slug LOL. We arrive at location brother backlashes because his reel is almost set up to free pool so I have to get nephew rigged up and going. I catch first fish brother starts digging through bag trying to find similar lure then asks do you have another one. Fish spot and move. I get close to some humps and I grab my hand held GPS to find the sweet spot my nephew asks what is that. I explain to him what it is and how it works.. Mistake... big big mistake... Fish here and there and catch a few and nephew actually catches one. Go to fish an old roadbed that I have marked on my gps and the waypoint is gone all the waypoints are gone. 3 years of waypoints gone. I sit down in disbelief brother asks whats wrong I tell him my waypoints are gone he calmly says well Harley(nephew) was messing around with it he must have done something. I was sick to my stomach and my brother sensed that I was pee-oed and he said to my nephew not to mess with stuff. I was mad but I bit my tongue and just basically sighed and died inside and the trip was over right then and there for me. I pulled into the middle of the lake and told my brother he can have the front of the boat as I let them worm fish in 30 feet of water while I sat behind the wheel sick as a dog. We move and on the way to another spot I pushed in the choke while under way and the motor skips and sputters and I say ohh something is wrong and that we need to head in.. The good news is that I convinced the wife in a new fishfinder/gps combo.
  7. Shoot! that fish was only 7 inches
  8. Welcome errrr Roll Tide!
  9. Dang! I want one of those. Great job! Did y'all weight her?
  10. Good-un 8-) Congrats...
  11. I use to have the same boat,, Well almost, 1977 Terry bass boat, I had a 85hp Johnson and it pushed my boat to about 45 at wot. I loved the layout on that little boat as well. The main thing when you are looking for a used motor is compression. A motor that has strong compression is a motor that can be fixed. Sometimes rather cheap. Motor needs fuel, spark, compression to run. Fuel and spark are the cheaper fix of the two. You can rent a compression gauge from Auto Zone and check the compression yourself. It's easy and you have the ease of mind knowing what you have. Compression in the high 90's and and no more that 4% difference in each of the cylinders you are good to go. The older motors were made to last a long time compared to the newer motors today.
  12. It's been hot (the weather not the fishing), we caught a little break from the heat Thursday and Friday with some afternoon thunder bumpers. We(family) decided to head down to the camper for a little break for the weekend since school started. I woke up early expecting to have to grind out a long day for 5 keepers, (I like to fish against myself to do better than the previous trip, Sounds lame but that's what I do. Self made one man tourney ) Anyways, I head to my favorite first spot and I decided to do something different, I laid the top water rod down and picked up my worm rod and fished out in front of the cove and fished into it instead of directly heading into the back and fishing out. 2nd cast I caught a 1 3/4 almost 15 inches. 4 cast I landed my first keeper, 10 minutes later 2nd keeper in the boat. 3 fish in the first 20 minutes since leaving the campground. I fished into the cove and I had a limit within a hour, Not a big stringer probably 10-12 pounds for 5. I was into the cove and pitched a texas rigged Yamamoto 5 inch redshad sinko next to a point on some lilies and Bam! I caught a heck of a cull 5.5 lbs. I fished until 11ish and I was able to cull my entire first 5 boating 11 total and only losing one. My personal best cumulative 5 total 15 pounds and some chance. Pictures of the bigger ones below. The pattern that I used is fished flats along weed/grass lines 6 to 8 foot of water except the lily pads which has milfoil and hydrilla mixed about them. Used 5 inch red shad sinkos and dark colored blue and dark red plastics (worms and big lizards).
  13. An angler is a man who spends days sitting in his boat doing nothing because his wife won't let him do it at home. Saw it as a sig on another forum.
  14. $125 maximum. All I can afford right now...
