We're still debating between the 73 SV or DI models. We mainly fish deep water reservoirs, targeting humps and structures in excess of 25' in some cases. Is there a limit to the side imaging effectiveness as far as depth goes? Thanks muchly Folks.

To each his own of course, but this much I can offer.

I ran a side-imaging chartplotter for a few seasons, but over time I felt

that I was wasting too much time deciphering the side-imaging screen.

In fact, the longer I owned the unit, the more time I spent scrutinizing the 3D down-scan,

and the less time I spent with side-imaging, not touching it all on most days.

Long story short, my old Humminbird Onix (DS/SI) paid for my new Lowrance Elite Ti downscanner.

I'm the same way.

I got the 73 SV last year and I will admit that I am still learning the ins and outs of it.

 

I am now finding brush piles and submerged stumps that I probably would not have found as quickly without the benefit of side imaging but the interpretation does take some getting used to.

I think SideVu is just another tool to use.  It isn't the answer to everything.  But another tool to use, like Panoptix, ClearVu, standard sonar, gps maps, etc.

I would rather have the option of having SV than not is why I got it and the huge discount helped my decision also ! Got mine for $449 non chirp model @ Bass Pro was $749 Reg price.
